Live Like 85 Festival in Gateshead
Dig out your leg warmers and shoulder pads, Live Aid is back! Well not quite, but it’s the closest thing we’ll probably get to it. The geniuses at DJMS Festivals have come up with the concept of a Live Aid Tribute Act concert. Which means that we’ve got a host of cover bands replicating that epic day back in the summer of ’85 at Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday 30th July.
Here’s the line up so far (not necessarily in that order):
- Queen
- U2
- David Bowie
- Bryan Adams
- Dire Straits
- Status Quo
They’re not the real thing of course but not a bad substitute either. Having seen The Straits UK play at The Stone Trough in Gateshead a few weeks back I’m really excited to see these guys play again as they were fantastic. If the rest of the bands are of a similar calibre then we’re in for a real treat.
They’ll also be some Kroud Karaoke thrown in for good measure – which will be a great way to fill in the gaps between sets.
Tickets are still available, including last minute two-for-one tickets. So what are you waiting for – let’s go party like it’s 1985!!!!
Newcastle Restaurant Week

Next month you may wish to loosen your belts and ditch the diets, as Newcastle Restaurant Week is back for this year’s second helping of discounted dining across the capital.
Between 8th and 14th August over 100 restaurants will be serving up set menus at special prices of just £10, £15 or £20. With a wide range of cuisines on offer ranging from street food and pizzas to fine dining, it’s an opportunity to try out some new restaurants, or to revisit some of your favourites without having to splash out quite so much.
Several well known chains are participating, including Las Iguanas, Pitcher & Piano, Pizza Punks, Turtle Bay and the Real Greek, as well as some acclaimed finer dining establishments such as Horticulture, Route, Blackfriars Restaurant and 21.
A recent winner of BBC’s Top British Takeaways, My Delhi, has a £15 menu on offer; Khai Khai, which was recently visited and lauded by Gordon Ramsey, has a £20 offering; and the Broad Chare, which came second in Big 7 Travels’ list of The 50 Best Gastro Pubs in the UK has a 2 course £15 menu or a 3 course £20 menu to choose from.
Some upmarket drinking establishments are also participating including the 3sixty champagne lounge and Fenwick’s Roof Thirty Nine.
To partake in any of the offers then browse the Restaurant Week website, choose your venue(s) and download a voucher to bring along for each one. Make sure you book first too – because if January Restaurant Weekend is anything to go by, then demand is going to be as hot as the Firestone pizza oven, the griddle at Rio Steakhouse and the curries at Dabbawal!
